The original 1951 set from Banty Red was modeled after the ‘51 Bowman issue. That set is now retired. The “New Look ‘51” set is spectacular. Brilliant flexichrome color on standard-sized cards, the card design is all original and borrows likely elements from a set that Topps might have produced in 1951 (I never liked the ‘51 Topps issue). With Topps losing their licensing soon, I wanted to celebrate the 70 years of their product. This set will feature 154 subjects including 2 team cards in salute to the 1950 pennant-winning Phillies and World Series Champion New York Yankees. Ted Williams opens the set at card #1 and Joe DiMaggio closes the show at #154. In between, we see rookie cards of Willie Mays at #78 and Mickey Mantle at #125. Other notable freshman inclusions are Nellie Fox at #66, Monte Irvin at #104 and Whitey Ford at #144.
